The Historic National Road (Rt 40) crosses the Ohio river in Wheeling West Virginia. The pre-civil war bridge allowed easier passage across the Ohio river for pioneers going west in the mid 1800s. Wheeling was one of the larger business centers in the United States at one time, due the National Road and river traffic. |
| Capitol Music Hall is also located in downtown Wheeling. It is home of the Wheeling Symphony and for Jamboree USA. The Jamboree country music has been entertaining folk since 1933. |

For those feeling lucky, Wheeling Island has 2,400 slot machines (one armed bandits). The resort offers 151 hotel rooms, 4 restaurants and greyhound (dog) racing! The old Moundsville State Penitentary is just south of Wheeling on Rt. 2. They offer tours of the old prison. (April-November) |
