The Copperhead snake is the most common poisonous snake found in West Virginia.

Rattlesnakes avoid people when possible but their bite can be very serious.

Their pupils are not round. See above. They look like cat eyes.
Their head is much wider than regular snake. Most snakes heads are almost the same width as the body.
Rattlers love laying in the sun during the day. They are often seen near rock outcroppings.
