Rural Farm in Randolph County

Randolph County is located in the eastern part of West Virginia containing 1,046 square miles, making it the largest county in the state.

The county was named in honor of Edmund Jennings Randolph, Virginia Governor and aid to General Washington during the American Revolution.

The county seat is located in the City of Elkins, named in honor of Senator Stephen B. Elkins.

The county seat was hotly contested with the town of Beverly in the late 1890s. Randolph County is home of the first 4-H camp in the state. Davis and Elkins College is located in Elkins

Recreational opportunities include Kimbrabow State Park, Monongahela National Forest and Rich Mountain Battlefield. The Rich Mountain Civil War battle was fought on July 11, 1861.

The economy revolves arourd the timber and tourism industries. There are many lumber mills and a major wood finishing factory in the area.
