Pocahontas County, WV

Pocahontas County is located in eastern West Virginia and contains some 943 square miles. The county seat is the town of Marlinton, which was named in honor of Jacob Marlin. Marlinn and Stephen Sewell settled the area in 1749.

Outdoor recreation is the king in this county. Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, Watoga State Park, Seneca State Park, Bear Town State Park, Droop Mountain Historical Park, Snowshoe Ski Resort and Greenbank National Radio Observatory to name a few. Pocahontas County is known as the birthplace of rivers. Eight rivers begin in the county
