Fairfax Stone Historical Monument This monument is located a couple miles off Rt. 219 near Thomas WV. Traveling along Rt. 219 North toward Rt. 50 is a very nice drive. The monument is located near Davis, WV which offers some really tough mountain biking, fishing and access to Blackwater State Park, Cannan Valley State Park and the Dolly Sods/Bear Rocks area.

Marker reads: This monument at the headspring of the Potomac River marks one of the historic spots of America. It's name is derived from Thomas Lord Fairfax who owned all the land lying between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers. The first Fairfax Stone marked "FX" was set in 1746 by Thomas Lewis, A surveyor employed by Lord Fairfax. This is the base point for the western dividing line between Maryland and West Virginia. |

Located along Rt 219 in the community of Silver Lake is the smallest church in 48 states. Just beside the little church is the smallest Post Office - Silver Lake, WV 26716.
